The first step in creating a welcoming space where kids can feel like superheroes—safe, supported, and ready to conquer the world!
We can help with many areas of your child's development, including thinking, emotions, behaviour, social interactions and play. We will focus on your child's strengths and work in a family-centred way.
Here at OTB Therapy we can help identify how your child is processing and responding to sensory information. Once the areas of difficulty are identified, we can implement strategies to address them.
Occupational therapy can help to improve various areas of daily living, including self-care activities (like dressing, toileting, eating, gross motor skills and fine motor skills), and so much more! We will help address unique challenges and offer techniques to promote independence and confidence in daily life.
Consider following your child's suggestion for activites and interests. Praise and encourage your child's creativity. Show excitement and enthusiasm for the special time you share together.
Try to maintain eye contact. Allow your child to finish speaking. Listen for the content as well as the feelings of your child. Try to put yourself in your childs shoes and consider their point of view.
Talk about their feelings. Attempt to help your child define their problem. Try to involve your child in brainstorming solutions. Model creative solutions yourself - This is a great one!
Avoid using "put-downs" and criticisms. Stop negative thoughts and replace with coping or calming thoughts. Practise, Practise and it will become easier. Focus on fixing the problem and not the blame.
